Toki - Kawakawa Pounamu, Greenstone, NZ Jade

This is a long Toki about 7cm long.  Made from the hardest Pounamu in New Zealand - Kawakawa.

It is a lovely dark green with some really interesting brown and black specks coming through on it...

Here is what mountainjade.co.nz says about the Toki shape.

The greenstone meaning of the toki design is one of strength. Traditionally it was tied to a wooden handle and used as the axe head in axes, and pointed tips in weaponry. It represents determination, strength, and honour, traits needed by the warriors wielding greenstone weaponry in battle.

I love the binding on a toki, While it is only decorative it can really add weight and value to the piece.
